The workplace radius is the single most important attendance setting. Too tight and honest staff are blocked at the gate; too loose and people can clock in from the road outside.
Why GPS drifts
A phone's reported position can wander by 5 to 50 metres depending on the phone, the weather and whether the person is indoors. A radius that merely matches your building's footprint will therefore reject people who are standing inside it.
A simple method
- Stand outdoors near the centre of the area staff actually use and pin the location there.
- Start with 75 to 150 metres for a single site; larger campuses may need 150 to 300 metres.
- Test from the farthest corner a staff member would reasonably clock in from, and from just outside the boundary.
- Adjust, then tell staff the rule.
Indoor offices and hospitals
Where GPS is unreliable indoors, widen the radius a little and add an IP-address lock so staff must also be on the office network. Both checks apply together.
